Rewriting Rural Inheritance
Local Folk exists to restore what was lost to us. Since the beginning, rural America has been, as Wendell Berry put it, “plundered without apology.” A small and independent livelihood has become nearly impossible under policies that favor agribusiness, consolidation, and specialization. But we believe that the story isn’t over yet.
Local Folk was launched in 2024 by Trey and Racheal Webster, but the story doesn’t really begin there. It begins with our grandparents, and theirs before them. Folks who farmed because it’s what you did, who took care of their neighbors and didn’t travel much outside of the bounds of the place they called home. They handed us a way of life: slow, good, and full of wisdom. We carry that inheritance with deep respect and it’s in that spirit that we endeavor to reclaim victory for rural communities.
Local Folk Today
Today, Local Folk is a small farmstead nestled in the heart of North Central Florida. We grow a mix of annual and perennial medicinal herbs on 1/8 of an acre using natural practices that honor both the soil and the soul.
A trained herbalist, Racheal transforms that harvest into a lineup of botanical goods in the tradition of southern farmwives and folk healers of old. And of course, we offer those goods with pride to our neighbors near and far via our on-farm stand or shipping nationwide.
Rooted in the belief that true wellness extends beyond physical health to include a deep connection to place and people, we aim to cultivate resilience, beauty, and a love for your neighbors within our community.
Every tea blend, salve, and bar of soap that leaves our farm is part of that vision, because we believe that healing, nourishment, and connection all grow best close to home.
A Vision for the Future
We’re passionate about herbs, but we’re even more committed to strengthening our rural community and inspiring a reclamation of rural independence. We’re working towards more resilient food systems, a revival of traditional skills, and an abundance of meaningful work for people who choose to live outside the confines and conveniences of urban places.
As we look to the future, we’re building more than a business. We’re nurturing a culture of care - for the land, for each other, and for those who will come behind us. We’re so glad you’re here, and we hope that, in some small way, you feel at home among the Local Folk.
